Party of 1: Tips for the South Walton Solo Traveler

South Walton is a perfect place to do some soul searching, whether you’re taking in the local culture, savoring some exquisite eats or exploring the pristine natural landscapes.

Our 16 unique beach neighborhoods have a diverse mix of accommodations if you are planning a solo trip, including stylish boutique hotels and even cozy 1-bedroom cottages. These offer the ideal home base for chilling out in between your adventures.

Hike or bike along hundreds of miles of pathways including the Timpoochee Trail. You can wander through state forests, winding back roads and incredible gardens. Or, leave terra firma behind and set out for some stand-up paddleboarding across a rare coastal dune lake. If you’re having trouble deciding on an activity, 30A Adventures can help get you set up for almost anything.

Paddleboarding in Grayton Beach State Park

For a different kind of exploration, you can get lost in the local art scene. Stroll through the colorful shops and galleries of the Ruskin Place Artist Colony or take a walk on the wild side at The Zoo Gallery in Grayton Beach. To truly “immerse” yourself, consider the Underwater Museum of Art, less than a mile offshore. Dive down and spend some peaceful time with these unique works by local artists.

When you want a truly stress-free outing, find your inner peace during an outdoor yoga session or pamper yourself with a treatment at one of the many local day spas. Once refreshed, get a healthy dose of retail therapy at any number of designer boutiques or at Silver Sands Premium Outlets. You may come away with a perfect treasure to take home as a happy reminder of your vacation. Shopping alone means you get what you want!

Ready to refuel? There’s something here to suit just about any craving. The intimate fine dining experience of Roux 30A makes you feel welcome from the moment you arrive. For something more casual, flip your flops right on into The Whale’s Tail, a Seascape staple for great grub and Gulf-gazing.

Of course, before, during or after any of these activities, you always have South Walton’s incredible beaches to fall back on – both figuratively and literally. One is certainly not the loneliest number when you’re stretched out on the sugar-white sand with a glorious view of the turquoise water.

So, start planning today and treat yourself to a solo mission soon! While traveling with companions allows you to share your experiences, adventuring alone gives you the autonomy to make choices based on how you feel in the moment.
