Get a Nightlife: Family Fun After Sundown

It all starts at dinner. Stinky’s Fish Camp is a family pleaser with its festive ambiance and menu full of choices. Kids will love tasty options such as crab legs, fried shrimp and fettuccine alfredo. And they often have live music to add to the happy vibe.  North of the Choctawhatchee Bay, Bogey’s Bar & Restaurant in DeFuniak Springs is always a local favorite. Everyone enjoys the fun atmosphere and spacious deck for outdoor dining. With a rotating array of promotions, you can get a great deal or try a special dish any night.

The Big Chill at The Hub in WaterSound is always a lively scene filled with families. There’s a large, open area at the center, facing a stage that serves up everything from movies on a big screen to live music. Surrounding it are numerous shops in case you want to pick up some coastal fashion or a little something to commemorate your trip. There are also plenty of options for getting drinks, food and tasty desserts.

Speaking of tasty treats, look no further than Pecan Jacks. They have something to satisfy everyone’s sweet tooth with an incredible selection of candy, brittle, pralines and toffee. Not far away is Blue Mountain Creamery, where you can find freshly made ice cream in a wide range of flavors. Just behind it is their snack shop, offering donuts, frozen custard, shakes and more.

Catching a movie under the stars is always a great way to please everyone. Seaside’s Central Square Cinema has a steady rotation of family-friendly flicks. Rosemary Beach’s Western Green and the Alys Beach Amphitheatre also offer large spaces for gathering. Just bring your chairs, blankets, snacks and drinks. You can also usually find food trucks nearby to provide the refreshments.

Looking for a little challenge and excitement? Head over to Thrills Laser Tag and Arcade in Seascape. They have over 70 of the most advanced video games for all levels of capability. Plus, you can split the family up and go head-to-head in and all-out laser battle.

Nearby, the Village at Baytowne Wharf in Miramar Beach has a little bit of everything from fun shops and restaurants to the Adventure Zone with rock climbing and an exhilarating zip line. Stroll these festive streets and you’re bound to find some unexpected festivities. If you feel like leaving land behind, Solaris departs from the marina here, Monday through Friday, for unforgettable sunset cruises.

And if you really just want the stars, with no background noise, you can always opt for a group walk on the beach. Just remember to mind the local rules for Leave No Trace. These local beaches are the stomping ground of another set of families: sea turtles. Keeping the dunes and the sand smooth, clean and unobstructed helps them through their own nightlife as they move to and from their nests.

So, compare notes as a family and decide what you’re feeling like tonight. From action to straight-up chillaxing, Walton County has evening experiences to suit any mood. And these close-knit neighborhoods make it easy to jump from one activity if you happen to change your mind!
